The senna plant has been valued for centuries in Islamic tradition for its soothing and purifying properties and is considered a part of the Sunnah, having been recommended by the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) as a means of purification.
A hadith from Asma bint Umais (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said:
“Use senna and sanut (a type of butter or honey), for they cure every disease except death.”
(Narrated by Ibn Majah, Hadith no. 3457)
