🌿 Qust al-Hindi: Healing effects & applications of Indian costume
Qust al-Hindi (Saussurea costus) is a valued medicinal plant in Islamic medicine with a long tradition in the treatment of various ailments. It is particularly well known for its mention in the Prophet's Medicine (Tibb an-Nabawi) .
🕌 Qust al-Hindi in Islam
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: “Use the Indian frankincense (Qust al-Hindi), for it contains cures for seven diseases.”

🩺 Medical applications & healing effects
1. Respiratory diseases
Qust al-Hindi is traditionally used for asthma, bronchitis, and sore throats. Its anti-inflammatory properties can ease breathing.

The plant contains bioactive compounds that have anti-inflammatory effects.

It promotes digestion, reduces flatulence and helps with gastrointestinal problems.
4. Strengthening the immune system
Thanks to its antioxidant properties, Qust al-Hindi can strengthen the immune system and protect against free radicals.
🧴 Application forms
tea
Pour 1 teaspoon of powder over hot water and let it steep for 10 minutes.
Honey mixture
Take mixed with honey for stomach problems or to strengthen the immune system.
Nasal drops
Mixed with olive oil to treat respiratory diseases (according to Islamic tradition).
✅ Recipe for nasal drops with Qust al-Hindi:
Ingredients:
1 tsp Qust al-Hindi powder (finely ground)
2–3 tablespoons of virgin olive oil (preferably cold-pressed)
Directions:
1. Heat the olive oil slightly (do not boil, just lukewarm).
2. Stir in the Qust al-Hindi powder thoroughly until a smooth mixture is formed.
3. Let it cool and strain it through a fine cloth or coffee filter to remove the particles.
4. Pour the filtered liquid into a sterile dropper bottle (e.g. an empty nasal dropper bottle or pipette bottle).
Application:
1–2 drops in each nostril, once daily (max. 2x).
Do not use for longer than 5–7 days at a time to avoid irritating the nasal mucosa.
📜 In the hadith (Sahih Bukhari 5692) sniffing (Inkib) of Qust al-Hindi is recommended for throat problems – this application is based on this.

External use
Apply as an oil for skin conditions such as eczema or rashes.
